Shahrukh Khan won't sign to 'Save Sanju'

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan on Tuesday said he was not part of any signature campaign to "save" jailed actor Sanjay Dutt, saying "we understand that the law will take its own course."

"We are not illiterate nor are we stupid. We understand that the law will take its own course and I am sure his (Dutt's) family also realises that. I don't know where this news has come from," Shah Rukh said here on the sidelines of a promotional event here this evening.

"Of course, as a friend I do wish him all the best. But we do realise that we cannot change the way the law functions. Nor would I want that the courts change their decisions just because some say so. That is not how it works at all," the superstar added.

Shah Rukh's name had figured in a section of the media as one of the Bollywood personalities who were thinking of starting a signature campaign in support of Dutt who has been sentenced to six years in prison for illegal possession of arms by a special TADA court which tried accused in 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.

Special Public Prosecutor in the case Ujjwal Nikam had lashed out at such campaigns, saying they amounted to contempt of court.

The 48-year-old actor is lodged in Pune's Yerwada Jail and his lawyers on Tuesday approached the Supreme Court against his conviction and also applied for bail.

Setting Shahrukh's pants on fire & Mallika's dare bare

Ashley Rebello on his quirky clients from Bollywood

Mallika's dare bare

She's the most fun person to work with - fun and mad. I remember we were once at a filmmaker's office discussing the clothes she required. The garment in question was a two-piece bikini.

The director looked aghast at the photos and said 'Isn't it too small?' She replied, 'No bikinis are like this only'. Afterwards when I made it, she looked at it and said, 'I don't think I can wear it, it's too small!'

She rang me up once and said, 'I am dethroned. I am dethroned!' I said, 'What what?'

She said, 'I've just seen Dhoom 2 and Bipasha has worn the smallest of bikinis and Aishwarya has worn the tiniest of skirts!'

When she went for the Cannes film festival I gave her this choli blouse and a brocade skirt with work on it and a really big slit right up till her bottom. Along with this I gave her a churidar with some pretty work on it. When I opened the papers and saw her I fainted with shock because she hadn't worn the churidar only the skirt and blouse! But then that's Mallika - totally mad but great fun to be with. She gets along with anybody and everybody and can keep you entertained all the time.

Sonali is a designer's dream

I did Sonali Bendre's clothes. She is one of my best clients.

If I gave her the best of clothes or rubbish she'd wear it without a murmur so I always felt like doing my best for her.

She carried off clothes like nobody else did. She looked so graceful in whatever she wore.

Aamir's Aligarhi pyjamas and blue jeans

Aamir is the quirkiest person where clothes are concerned. I did a spate of films with him during the Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander days.

Once he required a white shirt and blue jeans. How difficult can that be? I got the white shirt, he said, 'No get me a size 6 white shirt.' I got them, he tried them all and found something he didn't like in each one and rejected them all. Then I got him another lot of white shirts and finally (thank God) he settled on one.

Then I got him the blue jeans and he said, 'This pair - make this a quarter inch tighter.' Quarter inch?! I thought, Oh my God, I'll have to open the whole top portion, refix the buttons.

I'll have to re-do it and all for a quarter inch. I went home wondering what to do? I put water on the jeans and dried it in the sun. Jeans tighten like that. I took a rickshaw and took it to him.

He said, 'Haan this is just fine. See!' Then he asked, 'But where are the stitches?' I said 'If you can see where the stitches are then I haven't done a good job. I've done it so nicely that you can't even make out I've done it'. That's Aamir Khan!

Whenever he needed pyjamas, it was a whole production because he used to wear only Aligarhi pyjamas, which his naani used to get stitched from Aligarh.

So whenever he needed nightwear, I had to know in advance so that I could order them for him from Aligarh! Aligarhi pyjamas are very comfortable pathani style pyjamas! He always wanted his chappals and shoes to be made in a particular way with a particular kind of in-soles in them.

He loved the chicken curry that my mum makes. He loves food and would come for Christmas to eat mum's curry.

Karisma turns designer

I'd say Karisma is the star who's most particular about her clothes. She would get me magazines from abroad, she'd get me buttons, trimmings, cuttings -- she'd make styles for me. When we did Fiza, it was the first non-glamour film we were doing.

She said, 'Ashley I'll put a bit of base and we'll go for the shoot.' We went on the set and Santosh Sivan, the cameraman said, 'Go and wash your face and come.

You've got make up on!' She said, 'No I haven't.' He said, 'Don't be insecure.

Go and wash your face.' So she did and did the film without any make up.

She has an outstanding complexion. When you watch her work; her dedication is complete.

When Priyanka threw a fit

Priyanka Chopra was doing the film Karam. I was doing her clothes. Her outfit for a dance sequence required ostrich feathers and we got it from Australia. I told her hairdresser to do her hair in a certain way.

Once the look was decided I'd come to the set early and send her clothes in. One day she sent for me and started firing me saying, 'You've come late, it's very unprofessional.'

I was taken aback because I had come early but didn't go to her room because all the clothes were tried and approved, so I'd just send them in and wait outside. I told her so.

But she refused to be mollified. She went on and on. Pammi, David Dhawan's wife, was there and she too said it wasn't right on my part etc.

I was stunned at the unwarranted attack. When she saw my expression she started laughing and said, 'Today's the first of April stupid. Fooled you. Didn't I?'

Setting Shahrukh's pants on fire

Shahrukh Khan and I met during Josh and we wanted to create something different with jeans.

Mansoor's sister Nuzat and I were doing the film together. We just couldn't figure how to make the jeans different, because everyone was wearing jeans anyway.

What could we do to make them different? SRK offered 'I have these old pairs of jeans, if you want you can use them.' We said okay and wondered what to do with them.

We were smoking. A lighter touched the lower portion of the jeans and burnt them. We thought, 'Oh god now what should we do?' But the frayed bottom gave the pair a new look so we burnt the entire lower portion.

The other pair we cut and sprayed all over and SRK said, 'Wow what did you do?' He also wore this earring on the side of his ear and it became such a rage that they were sold all over the place.

After the film, everyone was wearing frayed jeans and earrings! SRK is absolutely hassle free. He'd quietly wear whatever we gave him.

I've no plans to be SRK's dad

Another rumor regarding a forthcoming film of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan bit the dust recently. Contrary to reports being strategically placed in sections of the media, the mighty thespian Dilip Kumar isn't playing SRK's father in the Vivek Vaswani comedy ‘Dulha Mil Gaya’.

The thespian's wife Saira Banu personally denies any such plans for her 84-year old husband. Beyond that the gracious couple refuses to say anything. But a close family friend has a lot to say about such arbitrary and illusory attempts to bring the two Khan superstars together.

Actually the Dilip Kumar–SRK ties go back a long way. Both are Pathans and share a common passion for cinema. There's a more- than- passing facial resemblance between the two.

What clinched the matter was Saira Banu’s declaration some years ago at an awards function that if she and her husband had a son he'd probably look like SRK.

The idea of casting them as father and son must have been born then, but as of now they are not coming together in any film.

‘Dulha Mil Gaya’ was shot in Tobago and Trinidad and the film stars Sushmita Sen and Fardeen Khan. SRK is paired with Sushmita in the film.

Hrithik out, SRK is new Boss!

Acoording to latest buzz, after his blockbuster Sivaji, Shankar has approached SRK for his next venture, supposedly, a sci-fi flick.

A source close to the director says, “Shankar wanted Hrithik but it seems that he won’t be able to do the film because he has already committed to his father Rakesh Roshan for Krrish 2.

Now, Shankar has approached SRK and he has agreed.”

It was only on the actor's request that the shooting will commence after a while. SRK has agreed to begin shooting for Shankar's film only after as he completes Shirish Kunder's film, which is untitled so far.

Shahrukh Khan, the new boss?

After making the blockbuster Sivaji: The Boss with Rajnikanth, director S Shankar is all set to make a film with Shah Rukh Khan. The two will apparently work together on an action thriller.

SRK has been in talks with the director for a while now about working together. The Bollywood superstar has not yet signed on the deal but it is believed that the duo have already discussed the script and other details of the film. The shooting of the film, however, will take a while to begin as SRK wants to finish work on Shirish Kunder's yet untitled film. Shankar has won many accolades for the stupendous success of his Sivaji. The film has broken all Indian ticket sales records, prompting its makers to have it dubbed in Hindi and some foreign languages as well. Shankar is also the man who directed Aishawariya Rai in one of her first film's Jeans.

SRK-Kajol to be back together

Filmmaker Karan Johar is making possible what has so far seemed highly unlikely – the return of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol as a couple on the silver screen.

If reports are to be believed, Karan Johar is ready to create a casting coup in his next movie, which is tentatively titled ‘Khan’. While it goes without saying that SRK will helm the cast of any K-Jo film, what comes as a pleasant surprise is that Kajol will team up again with SRK after many years.

SRK and Kajol have been a very hit Bollywood jodi and have given hits like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, and the superhit Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.

Karan Johar, who made Kajol make a cameo appearance in his last movie Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, reportedly told Kajol that he could not make his next movie ‘Khan’ without her.

Grapevine has it that the dusky beauty has agreed to act in the film.

Kajol returned to acting last year after a long sabbatical with Kunal Kohli’s film Fanaa in which she paired for the first time with Aamir Khan.

Karan Johar’s next film will not just be a movie about relationships. Sources say it will raise certain social issues that are very relevant to contemporary times when Muslims find themselves under constant scrutiny in the west.

The protagonist of ‘Khan’ will be a Muslim and the film’s story will most likely be set in the US.
