Bipasha Basu: "Those dirty hooligans who apparently molested two women on New Year's day should be punished so severely that no pervert would dare to try these dirty ugly acts ever again.
The offenders should be tracked down and disciplined publicly. I've been a single woman in Mumbai and used to be proud of the city.
But cheap and filthy men like the ones who struck on New Year's day are destroying the city's safe reputation.
And why should only cops be responsible for the law and order? Even the man on the road should help in such a situation. Ultimately it's the people who define a city.
Shabana Azmi: "Take Back The Night was a slogan coined by a the women's movement to demand basic security for women. Every rule of civilized society demands that security should be provided for women.
We used to pride ourselves on Mumbai being a safe city. Surety of punishment for the offenders is a more effective deterrent than the severity of punishment."
Vaibhavi Merchant: "Going to any public place on 31 st December is scary specially in Mumbai. This incident only verifies my worst fears about the city.
Only the cops can keep the city safe. It's really sad the such an incident went unnoticed. They should've thrashed the shit out of those drunken louts.
However Mumbai cannot be called unsafe because of some hooligans. This incident should serve as a wakeup-call for 2009. Sushmita Sen: "It's a repulsive incident. I feel very violated and upset when humanbeings relinquish their human qualities and begin to behave like beasts. It's not a question of Mumbai alone.
It's not a geographical issue. Disgraceful people like these molestors make the world an unsafe place. I pray these offenders are caught and punished severely. My heart goes out to both the couples.
Hema Malini: "I thought Mumbai was the safest city in the world. This incident has shocked me. Those men should be punished right away, and that too in public. And the cops how did they allow it happen?
I feel parents with daughters should be careful on nights like these when men are drunk.
Malaika Arora: "I've always considered Bombay to be a safe place for women. But not any longer. I'm sure most women in the city feel the same way after the shocking barbaric incident.
Mahesh Bhatt: "Mumbai has always been unsafe. My wife was once molested way back in the 1980s and had to fight her way out of a mob. The media is now spotlighting the average Indian's repressed sexuality.
Arbaaz Khan: "Mumbai is surely one of the safest cities in the world. However some recent incidents are alarming and cause for worry."
Raveena Tandon: "I wouldn't say Mumbai is completely unsafe. But it's getting there. The authorities should punish the offenders so severely that it sets an example for future. No one should dare to do what happened with those two women on New Year's. Koena Mitra: "Why only Mumbai city? No city is swafe any more for women. I feel for the two women who were manhandled on New Year's even. Poor things! My soul trembles at what they must have gone through.
Nobody is safe anywhere. All us showbiz girls like Bipasha, Tanushree and Celina are out of towners. No matter how much security we have we're still not safe.
We really need much harsher punishments for eveteasers. Punish them so hard, cut off their limbs, so they wouldn't dare to misbehave with women again."
Amrita Arora: "I think New Years nite is pretty unsafe. People are drunk and behave in a weird manner. There must be much more cops and security in crowded places during such occasions."
Priyanka (Nisha) Kothari: "That such a thing can happen in Mumbai is really shocking.. One always thought the city was absolutely safe for girls. But I don't feel the same way any more."

Soha did not snub me: Bipasha Basu
In all probability Bipasha Basu's first international project will be a Moghul historical featuring Ben Kingsley and Aishwarya Rai.
And she's playing Shah Jehan (Ben Kingsley)'s devoted daughter Jahanara Beghum.
"Yes, there's another role in the film, " Bipsha reveals softly. "And Ben Kingsley has asked me to do it. We've already spoken about it. And now we just need to work out the dates. "
While Aishwarya and Ben Kingsley will play Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal Bipasha says, "There's a very special character which Ben has asked me to play. "
The idea of Bipasha being part of Sir Ben's production on the building of the Taj Mahal germinated when they met at the 7Wonders event in Lisbon.
"We hit it off like a house on fire. Ben's so much fun. And when he offered me this role I was fascinated. "
Back home, Bipasha is amused by rumors of differences with fellow-Bengali Soha Ali Khan.
"Now where did that come from? I don't even know Soha well enough to be snubbed by her. What are we supposed to be fighting about? And please, nobody snubs me.
I've met her a couple of times outside Mumbai. But we've never met in Mumbai. I really don't know where these stories come from. And I think it's silly to even react to them. "
On the work front Bipasha has just completed Abbas-Mustan's Race with Saif Ali Khan and is looking forward to Goal with John. "Race has shaped up so well in spite of the delay. I'm looking forward to its release. It's my first comedy.
As time passes I'm getting greedier by the day. I now want to do something exotic, like the project with Ben Kingsley. I really want Rituparno Ghosh to start Draupadi with me. I know I can play Draupadi convincingly. "

Bipasha Basu very upset by Randeep
Bipasha and John have been shooting non-stop for Vivek Agnihotri's Goal at Nitin Desai's studio in Karjat. And so has Randeep Hooda for Ketan Mehta's Rang Rasiya.
He almost collided with the couple earlier this week when he drove his car at top speed inside the studio compound.
Grumbles Bipasha, "And then they write that I was admiring the man's driving! Am I mad to admire such rash driving?
To begin with, I don't know Randeep at all. Someone drove rashly, scaring the hell out of me, John and our respective staff. At the time it happened we had no clue where that came from. We came to know later who it was.
At that time I was very angry with the person driving the car, not admiring him, as reported in a daily. I'm not too fond of drivers who use the roads like their personal kingdom. I don't think it's right to drive like crazy, specially in a crowded place where people are shooting a film. I think anyone does so, should apologize. "
Randeep isn't in the mood to oblige.

Keep writing Trash about me:Bipasha
Dusky beauty Bipasha Basu says she never wanted to be an actress and her stint in Bollywood came by chance.
Bipasha, whose acting in films like "Corporate", "Raaz" and "Omkara" has won her rave reviews, told: "I never wanted to become an actress. I was happily doing my modelling but then I got bored of it. Acting came to me just by chance.
"But yes, I'm thoroughly enjoying it now and don't think I will get bored of it, but still if I do, I'll find something else to do."
Looking gorgeous in a green dress, the Bengali beauty, who was here for an event, said she was looking forward to acting in one or two substantial projects a year that would give her satisfaction.
Bipasha, who has acted in 33 films in her six years in the industry, has four films on hand - "Goal", "Race", "Paankh" and "Mr. Fraud".
"Now that I have achieved something in Bollywood, I really don't want to work everyday of my life. Frankly speaking, I don't need to work for money or fame, " she said.
"I have made my bit. Whatever assignments I take up now will only be for myself. It should satisfy me.
"There are many films that our industry is making but very few interesting. If you look at the cream of Bollywood, they just do one or two films a year, and I feel that is the best thing to do because then you produce quality."
Bipasha, who is reported to have been roped in for Mira Nair's ambitious project "Shantaram", on the life story of a convict based on Gregory David Roberts' best selling novel of the same name, said she would always be associated with Bollywood in some way or the other, even if she gets bored with acting.
"I'm very interested in the process of filmmaking. If I opt out of acting, I think I will be involved in some aspect of making movies. Either I will take up writing or assist someone, but as of now I'm in love with our industry. It is a fantasy world." The silver screen diva's personal life is under public scrutiny. From her lip lock with football sensation Christiano Ronaldo, her romantic link up with Saif Ali Khan to her speculated break-up with long time boyfriend and Bollywood hunk John Abraham, Bipasha has made some juicy headlines.
But the actress says the probing eyes and ears of the media never affect her.
"I understand that it is everyone's job to make a story. There is too much competition to break news or write something interesting, " she said. "I believe it is part of their job and I'm sure many have to do such things even though they might not feel like writing such things.
"But I'm not affected by all the speculations and scrutiny. I cannot stop it, so why bother about it. One has to be intelligent about such stories. I understand such news is being reported because it sells. For me, people around me matter, not what people are thinking about me or writing about me."
