Bipasha Basu: "Those dirty hooligans who apparently molested two women on New Year's day should be punished so severely that no pervert would dare to try these dirty ugly acts ever again.
The offenders should be tracked down and disciplined publicly. I've been a single woman in Mumbai and used to be proud of the city.
But cheap and filthy men like the ones who struck on New Year's day are destroying the city's safe reputation.
And why should only cops be responsible for the law and order? Even the man on the road should help in such a situation. Ultimately it's the people who define a city.
Shabana Azmi: "Take Back The Night was a slogan coined by a the women's movement to demand basic security for women. Every rule of civilized society demands that security should be provided for women.
We used to pride ourselves on Mumbai being a safe city. Surety of punishment for the offenders is a more effective deterrent than the severity of punishment."
Vaibhavi Merchant: "Going to any public place on 31 st December is scary specially in Mumbai. This incident only verifies my worst fears about the city.
Only the cops can keep the city safe. It's really sad the such an incident went unnoticed. They should've thrashed the shit out of those drunken louts.
However Mumbai cannot be called unsafe because of some hooligans. This incident should serve as a wakeup-call for 2009. Sushmita Sen: "It's a repulsive incident. I feel very violated and upset when humanbeings relinquish their human qualities and begin to behave like beasts. It's not a question of Mumbai alone.
It's not a geographical issue. Disgraceful people like these molestors make the world an unsafe place. I pray these offenders are caught and punished severely. My heart goes out to both the couples.
Hema Malini: "I thought Mumbai was the safest city in the world. This incident has shocked me. Those men should be punished right away, and that too in public. And the cops how did they allow it happen?
I feel parents with daughters should be careful on nights like these when men are drunk.
Malaika Arora: "I've always considered Bombay to be a safe place for women. But not any longer. I'm sure most women in the city feel the same way after the shocking barbaric incident.
Mahesh Bhatt: "Mumbai has always been unsafe. My wife was once molested way back in the 1980s and had to fight her way out of a mob. The media is now spotlighting the average Indian's repressed sexuality.
Arbaaz Khan: "Mumbai is surely one of the safest cities in the world. However some recent incidents are alarming and cause for worry."
Raveena Tandon: "I wouldn't say Mumbai is completely unsafe. But it's getting there. The authorities should punish the offenders so severely that it sets an example for future. No one should dare to do what happened with those two women on New Year's. Koena Mitra: "Why only Mumbai city? No city is swafe any more for women. I feel for the two women who were manhandled on New Year's even. Poor things! My soul trembles at what they must have gone through.
Nobody is safe anywhere. All us showbiz girls like Bipasha, Tanushree and Celina are out of towners. No matter how much security we have we're still not safe.
We really need much harsher punishments for eveteasers. Punish them so hard, cut off their limbs, so they wouldn't dare to misbehave with women again."
Amrita Arora: "I think New Years nite is pretty unsafe. People are drunk and behave in a weird manner. There must be much more cops and security in crowded places during such occasions."
Priyanka (Nisha) Kothari: "That such a thing can happen in Mumbai is really shocking.. One always thought the city was absolutely safe for girls. But I don't feel the same way any more."

Soha did not snub me: Bipasha Basu
In all probability Bipasha Basu's first international project will be a Moghul historical featuring Ben Kingsley and Aishwarya Rai.
And she's playing Shah Jehan (Ben Kingsley)'s devoted daughter Jahanara Beghum.
"Yes, there's another role in the film, " Bipsha reveals softly. "And Ben Kingsley has asked me to do it. We've already spoken about it. And now we just need to work out the dates. "
While Aishwarya and Ben Kingsley will play Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal Bipasha says, "There's a very special character which Ben has asked me to play. "
The idea of Bipasha being part of Sir Ben's production on the building of the Taj Mahal germinated when they met at the 7Wonders event in Lisbon.
"We hit it off like a house on fire. Ben's so much fun. And when he offered me this role I was fascinated. "
Back home, Bipasha is amused by rumors of differences with fellow-Bengali Soha Ali Khan.
"Now where did that come from? I don't even know Soha well enough to be snubbed by her. What are we supposed to be fighting about? And please, nobody snubs me.
I've met her a couple of times outside Mumbai. But we've never met in Mumbai. I really don't know where these stories come from. And I think it's silly to even react to them. "
On the work front Bipasha has just completed Abbas-Mustan's Race with Saif Ali Khan and is looking forward to Goal with John. "Race has shaped up so well in spite of the delay. I'm looking forward to its release. It's my first comedy.
As time passes I'm getting greedier by the day. I now want to do something exotic, like the project with Ben Kingsley. I really want Rituparno Ghosh to start Draupadi with me. I know I can play Draupadi convincingly. "

Bipasha Basu very upset by Randeep
Bipasha and John have been shooting non-stop for Vivek Agnihotri's Goal at Nitin Desai's studio in Karjat. And so has Randeep Hooda for Ketan Mehta's Rang Rasiya.
He almost collided with the couple earlier this week when he drove his car at top speed inside the studio compound.
Grumbles Bipasha, "And then they write that I was admiring the man's driving! Am I mad to admire such rash driving?
To begin with, I don't know Randeep at all. Someone drove rashly, scaring the hell out of me, John and our respective staff. At the time it happened we had no clue where that came from. We came to know later who it was.
At that time I was very angry with the person driving the car, not admiring him, as reported in a daily. I'm not too fond of drivers who use the roads like their personal kingdom. I don't think it's right to drive like crazy, specially in a crowded place where people are shooting a film. I think anyone does so, should apologize. "
Randeep isn't in the mood to oblige.

Keep writing Trash about me:Bipasha
Dusky beauty Bipasha Basu says she never wanted to be an actress and her stint in Bollywood came by chance.
Bipasha, whose acting in films like "Corporate", "Raaz" and "Omkara" has won her rave reviews, told: "I never wanted to become an actress. I was happily doing my modelling but then I got bored of it. Acting came to me just by chance.
"But yes, I'm thoroughly enjoying it now and don't think I will get bored of it, but still if I do, I'll find something else to do."
Looking gorgeous in a green dress, the Bengali beauty, who was here for an event, said she was looking forward to acting in one or two substantial projects a year that would give her satisfaction.
Bipasha, who has acted in 33 films in her six years in the industry, has four films on hand - "Goal", "Race", "Paankh" and "Mr. Fraud".
"Now that I have achieved something in Bollywood, I really don't want to work everyday of my life. Frankly speaking, I don't need to work for money or fame, " she said.
"I have made my bit. Whatever assignments I take up now will only be for myself. It should satisfy me.
"There are many films that our industry is making but very few interesting. If you look at the cream of Bollywood, they just do one or two films a year, and I feel that is the best thing to do because then you produce quality."
Bipasha, who is reported to have been roped in for Mira Nair's ambitious project "Shantaram", on the life story of a convict based on Gregory David Roberts' best selling novel of the same name, said she would always be associated with Bollywood in some way or the other, even if she gets bored with acting.
"I'm very interested in the process of filmmaking. If I opt out of acting, I think I will be involved in some aspect of making movies. Either I will take up writing or assist someone, but as of now I'm in love with our industry. It is a fantasy world." The silver screen diva's personal life is under public scrutiny. From her lip lock with football sensation Christiano Ronaldo, her romantic link up with Saif Ali Khan to her speculated break-up with long time boyfriend and Bollywood hunk John Abraham, Bipasha has made some juicy headlines.
But the actress says the probing eyes and ears of the media never affect her.
"I understand that it is everyone's job to make a story. There is too much competition to break news or write something interesting, " she said. "I believe it is part of their job and I'm sure many have to do such things even though they might not feel like writing such things.
"But I'm not affected by all the speculations and scrutiny. I cannot stop it, so why bother about it. One has to be intelligent about such stories. I understand such news is being reported because it sells. For me, people around me matter, not what people are thinking about me or writing about me."

Bipasha & Saif's Racy Love scene!
Not in real life but for their forthcoming film ‘Race’, Bipasha Basu and Saif Ali Khan will be getting intimate for a lovemaking scene.
The Saif and Bipasha friendship has been making headlines of late. Bips has often been spotted with Saif at parties, social dos and restaurants. In fact, their growing proximity has fueled the speculation of a possible rift between Bipasha and her boyfriend John Abraham.
Now, the latest dope on Bips and Saif is that they will be seen enacting a passionate lovemaking scene in director duo Abbas-Mastan’s next thriller ‘Race’. The scene will be part of a song in the film.
While sources at TIPS (film’s producers) say the scene is yet to be shot, there are some media reports that allege that the scene has already been shot in relative secrecy.
According to reports, the sequence was recently shot at a studio in Goregaon East. During this intimate scene between Saif and Bipasha, everybody in the unit, except a few technicians, was asked to leave the sets.
If this is true, then it is obviously understandable that the lovemaking scene was very steamy.
Tips Films, the producers of Race, intend to use the risqué scenes extensively as part of the promos for the film.
Ramesh Taurani from Tips Films says: "Yes it is true that we have very hot scenes featuring Saif and Bipasha, which are part of a song."
Race is a thriller set in South Africa which features Anil Kapoor, Akshaye Khanna, Saif Ali Khan, Bipasha Basu and Katrina Kaif.

Bipasha claims to be single again
While John Abraham is keen to salvage their relationship, Bipasha appears set to move on. She recently told a friend, "I'm single for the first time in 10 years."
Late last month, to douse wildfire rumors of a split between them, John admitted he and Bipasha have their problems, but insisted both were committed to working them out.
Pointing out that he was currently staying at the same hotel in Pondicherry where they shot their first film together, Jism, he announced Bipasha would be joining him there shortly, so they could reignite the sparks of their relationship.
Bipasha, never did join him.
According to sources, the 28-year-old former Ford supermodel is in no mood for a reconciliation with her 'former' boyfriend.
Bipasha actually had an excellent opportunity to visit Pondicherry for professional reasons. She was offered a cameo in Kumar Mangat's latest production, ‘One, Two, Three’, which is being shot in the former French colony, south of Chennai. However, the actress declined the offer citing date issues.
"We wanted Bipasha to play a Jat cop in the film. The schedule demanded her to film in Pondicherry for 20 days. We were hopeful that she would accept the offer, as John is around in Pondicherry too. But she gave some excuses and begged out of the film," says a source
John must have been disappointed. A source close to him says, "He wants to work on his relationship with Bipasha. He has been asking her to visit him in Pondicherry. Bit it's clear that Bipasha is through with him."
Ohhhh Bipasha... Give us a Break !!!

Bipaha, Saif chill out together!
Recently John and Bipasha gave a lengthy interview that they have not broken up and will soon be spending time with each other. Bipasha Basu meanwhile was linked with Saif Ali Khan, her co-star of her next film Race in the absence of boyfriend John who was not in town.
Well it seems though that both Bipasha and Saif are unperturbed by rumours linking them together, as recently they were again spotted chilling out together at a night club.
Bipasha had come in with her friends while Saif too was present at the night spot but later they both were seen hanging out together. Says a source, “Bipasha and Saif were seen together. They seemed pretty comfortable with each other.
However there were no cozy moments between the two and they were pretty much like buddies chilling out together.”
Well apparently Bipasha was to leave for the south the next day to spend time with John who is out there shooting for his film ‘Aashayein’. So is there something cooking between Bips and Saif or are they just good friends, well only time will tell.

Everything is clear to me now: Bips
Bipasha can suddenly see the world much better.
"All these years I've avoided hosting any show or any event for the simple reason that I can't read the tele-prompter. I'm short-sighted. But now history beckons me. And if I don't correct my vision now history and my conscience would never forgive me."
Having been given the singular honour of hosting the official -declaration ceremony for the New 7 Wonders Of The World in Lisbon on July 7, Bipasha has finally taken the plunge.
"I've got myself contact lenses this week--at the age of 28, if you please! All these years I stubbornly avoided it and risked losing friends after looking through them in public. But now when I was given the great privilege of hosting the event at Lisbon along with the likes of Ben Kingsley and Hillary Swank.
Jennifer Lopez will be performing…wow! I'd be foolish to not correct my eyesight. I can see everything so much clearly now…"
Including the fact that hosting the 7 Wonders declaration -ceremony is a historic honour for her, Bollywood and the country?
"That, it is!" Bipasha exclaims. "I don't know what made them choose me, maybe it was my appearance at Cannes last month. But I suddenly got a call from them. I'm deeply honoured and flattered. This is the first time since 200 BC that the 7 Wonders are being reconsidered. To be part of this is to be part of history. And I wouldn't have missed it for anything in world, certainly not for being stubbornly short-sighted."
Bipasha feels born-anew when she finally tried on her contact lenses. "I hope that doesn't mean my birthday will be celebrated thrice a year. My birthday is on Jan 7. But many websites have given the date wrongly as sometime in May. So I receive gifts and calls twice a year. Now with my new vision of life I may also receive birthday greetings on June 20 every year."
Hearty laughter and a promise to be dressed up for the occasion by her favourite designers, follows. "It would be my dear friend Rocky S for the Indian outfit, and that's a saree. Armani will do my western outfit, and destiny will take care of the rest," Bipasha shoots off before starting preparations for an event that promises to change the world, including Bipasha's.
She certainly looks gorgeous enough to be the 8th wonder of the world. "Ha, don't compliment me for my changing looks so soon. I'm a Capricorn and change is my only constant. It's said woman metamorphose and reach a peak of their beauty till 30. I still have two years to go."

Who after John?
Even though the split between Bipasha Basu and John Abraham is not yet official, rumour mills are having a field day talking about who is going to replace John in Bipasha's life. It seems that Saif Ali Khan and Dino Morea are both vying for the actress's attention and are looking to take John's place in her life. The actress got very close to Saif during the shoot of Abbas-Mustan's Race. The actor is very keen to date her. As for Dino, the actress was spotted making an appearance with him at a fashion store recently.
Bipasha is apparently waiting for John to return from Hyderabad, where he is shooting for a film. She has already given an ultimatum asking him to behave himself. Bipasha is leaving no stone unturned in trying to make her relationship with John work and has given herself a certain period of time to work things out. If they don't, she will move on. But not into any relationship for sure. She wants to take her time and not rush into anything.

Being Bengali on-screen isn't easy for Bipasha
Bipasha Basu may be a Bengali bombshell, but being a Bong on-screen doesn't come all that naturally to her. Bips played a Bengali in Corporate, which flopped.
Then Dhoom 2 had her as a Bengali cop. "In Corporate, I didn't have any Bengali lines. In Dhoom 2, I got an opportunity to talk in my mother tongue for the first time. I've never done a regional film, so this is the first time on camera that I spoke in Bengali.
It was hilarious to dub Bengali lines," she guffaws. What tickled Bips' funny bone was that she speaks the language at home but doing it on-screen felt strange. One more little known fact about Bipasha's bongness is that her family surname was actually Bose.
"My grandfather used to call himself K.N. Bose, but my father and uncle took Basu as a surname. Bose and Basu are close," she says. Bipasha Basu definitely sounds hotter than Bipasha Bose.
The actress might be making her Bengali film debut soon. Talks with ace director Rituparno Ghosh are on for a regional flick. "I am looking at doing this film called Draupadi with Rituparno, but I have still to read the script and agree to the film," says the Bollywood sizzler. Time she explored her rich cultural heritage.

I don't love Saif Ali Khan: Biapsha
While John shoots for Nagesh Kukunoor's Aashayen, girlfriend Bipasha Basu is generously being linked with Saif Ali Khan.
It all started during the Koffee with Karan show, Bips had made an innocent statement that if she was not seeing John, she may have been attracted to Saif.
Much-amused Bipasha says that Saif and her are just colleagues in Abbas-Mustan's Race, and that they get along very well. They went out for dinner just once and that too for half an hour.
“It’s crazy, we’re colleagues in Abbas-Mustan’s Race and we get along very well. I’ve been out with Saif for dinner just once. If that’s a reason for rumours to start, then so be it,” she says.
Well however now that Bips is being linked to Saif, she perhaps regrets making that statement.
What is adding to speculations that all is not well between John and Bips is her recent appearance at a fashion event with ex-flame Dino Morea.
However Bips claims, “It was only because John was out of town. The minute I drove in with Dino, I knew tongues would wag, let them.”
Bips feels that all these rumours surface just because John is out of town and she says “Just because John is out of town so much, people think they’re free to jump to conclusions about the status of our relationship. What they don't understand is that such rumours can affect our relationships.”

Bipasha Basu turns Pakistani
Bipasha has finished shooting for Vivek Agnihotri's football flick Goal.
Laughs Bipasha, "What makes it special is the fact that John and I are coming together after three years. The last film we did together was Madhoshi. After that I was determined to do only a good film with him.
Also, in Goal I play a Pakistani girl. I wanted to make sure that whenever we come together again our chemistry mustn't be a repeat of Jism. In Goal our chemistry is completely different."
More exciting than the presence of John is the fact that Bipasha plays a girl from the other side of the border. In this she becomes one with Preity Zinta in Veer-Zara and Kareena Kapoor in Refugee.
"I've never played anything like this. Though the focus of the plot is the game of football, I do have a substantial role to play."
She laughs and remembers, "This is my first role as a Pakistani. But I've played a Muslim girl in a Muslim Social called in Ishq Hai Tumse. I got to play a very sweet girl in that. I' excited about Goal not only because it's got John in it, but also because my character stands out."
