Shilpa Shetty has filed a court case against the UK-based Jasveer 'Jazz' Barton, who had falsely claimed to be her 'Agent', made commitments and even signed a deal on her behalf, while the actress was participating in the UK reality show Big Brother.

"We have put up a case at the City Civil Court, Mumbai, asking for an injunction against Jazz Barton's untrue claims and demands," informed Shilpa's spokesperson and publicist Dale Bhagwagar.

"Now that Shilpa is world famous, Jazz has been trying to extract money from her. She has been sending her legal notices, seeking a cut from Shilpa's earnings," said Bhagwagar, and added, "Jazz's demands are ridiculous, as Shilpa does not have any contract or agreement with her in the first place. By going to court, Shilpa is just protecting herself from Jazz's illegal claims."

It can be recalled that Jazz Barton (along with Bobby Khan) was instrumental in introducing Shilpa Shetty to Endemol; the casting-agency for Big Brother. When the UK media started addressing Jazz as Shilpa's 'Agent' and Bobby Khan as 'Manager', while Shilpa was still in the 'Big Brother' house, the Shetty's sensed Jazz was upto mischief by misguiding the media.

After slandering Shilpa in the western media, Jazz came down to Mumbai and gave derogatory statements against the actress and her mother Sunanda Shetty to the Indian media. On her visits to India, she was served two legal notices, after which, she hurriedly left the country. "Subsequently, there was an exchange of more legal notices with Jazz making illegal claims and monetary demands. Thus, Shilpa was left with no other alternative but to take legal action against Jazz Barton"

Big Baby Mat Kaho Na: Shilpa

In international circles, Shilpa Shetty has earned the tag of ‘Big Baby’ owing to her mom Sunanda Shetty accompanying her almost everywhere.

There were huge discussions about the 30 something actress living with her parents and actress sister Shamita Shetty and being accompanied by her mother for all business meetings, tours and shoots.

The screen beauty was not too happy about this tag from the western media. She quickly hit back by insisting that this is only about having a close knit family. "It's purely for emotional reasons. After a hard day's work, I need someone I can come home to. I don't travel with mum because I'm a baby," she retorted.

Shilpa’s spokesperson Dale Bhagwagar leaps to her defense. “There are two basic reasons for the same, the first being the fact that Shilpa’s mum is like her best friend.

Secondly if her mum is around, Shilpa can be somewhat laidback as she looks into the nitty-gritty of all things. In a way it must feel like home for her. When she had joined ‘Big Brother’, it was the first time she was traveling alone abroad and was without her mom for so many days at a stretch.

Shilpa enjoys her mom’s company. And her mom too is also a very chirpy bubby and happy go lucky person who talks and even yaps at times. It won’t be an understatement to say that she is even bubblier than Shilpa and puts one at complete ease.”

“Her mum accompanies her sister Shamita too, but then Shamita is much more independent and outgoing. She is much stronger. If she doesn’t like somebody doing something, she quickly disciplines the other person.

While Shilpa can’t do that, she is too simple, sweet and extremely gullible. Sometimes if Sunanda Shetty is busy traveling with Shilpa, their dad travels with Shamita,” adds Bhagwagar.

Shilpa is not alone. In Bollywood most actresses are known for being their mums' darlings. Kareena Kapoor is mostly seen around with her mother Babita, Priyanka Chopra and mum Dr Madhu Chopra are almost always together and there is Ayesha Takia whose constant companion is mommy Farida.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been known for her closeness to her mum Vrinda (more so before she became the Bachchan bahu).

In fact when she had gone to the Oprah Winfrey show some two years ago, she was asked by the surprised host as to how at 30 she was still staying with her folks. Aishwarya went on to explain the stunned Oprah the intricacies of our culture.

Rani Mukerji and Esha Deol’s closeness to their respective mums Krishna and Hema Malini is not hidden either. These girls are known to discuss all their professional decisions with their mothers.

In fact, certain sections of people have actually joked about ‘Bollywood actresses being handled by their mums’ in various forums and blogs.

Mainly because staying with one's parents and traveling with them after a certain age is alien behavior in the West and is against their idea of independence. It’s a part of Indian culture which they can't really comprehend.

Explains Bhagwagar,“In the West, children and siblings move out of home once they reach a certain age. But that doesn’t happen here since we are more attached to our parents. Not that they don’t love their parents, but I think Shilpa and the rest are kind of upholding that very culture.

Some people even here might feel a little uncomfortable about being accompanied by parents for business meetings and shoots. But Shilpa loves her parents so much that she can never take things that way.” -Sneha Hazarika

Shilpa Shetty, the new Bond Girl?

Post ‘Big Brother’, there has been really no looking back for Shilpa Shetty. The latest is that the flavour of this season is now leading opinion polls as the first choice for the Bond girl’s role opposite Daniel Craig in a Bond series movie.

It all started after ‘The People’ website in the UK raised the question about whether Shilpa would agree to play the Bond girl’s role, right after she won ‘Big Brother’. Since then there have been opinion polls across the internet and vast discussions on whether Shlpa qualifies for the ultimate glam role or not.

Interestingly thousands of people have actually voted for the dusky beauty and she has topped almost seven of these polls.

Surprisingly Halle Berry who was Bond girl in 2003’s ‘Die another day’ and who replayed the famous ‘Ursula Andress bikini shot from Dr. No’ has come second to the Indian diva.

However there is a downside as well. There are also sections of people taking part in these discussions who have been saying that things aren’t all that rosy and this could also end up as yet another big Bollywood rumour.

After the Aishwarya Rai and Gulshan Grover rumours, now it’s turn for rumours about the latest international celeb from India.

Some wrote that she doesn’t quite ‘have the Bond girl look' especially after the standard of the series went up after ‘Casino Royale’ and another even went to the extent of writing, “She is very pretty, but there is something really strange about her. Perhaps it’s the fake nose. It almost works but...”

Shilpa’s publicist and spokesperson Dale Bhagwagar chooses to analyse, “Every celeb has a fan base. Being loved by some and hated by others is a part and parcel of every actor’s life. Everyone is entitled to his/her individual opinion.”

There is yet another hitch which could be 'the Bollywood connection'. The fact remains that there has not been any actor from India who has made it as big as a Mexican Salma Hayek, a Spanish Penelope Cruz or an Italian Monica Belluci.

The general perception by now is that in Hollywood the whites and the blacks have their space, but things are not very favourable when it comes to brown skin and these actors always end up getting stereotyped.

There were high hopes about the ethereally beautiful Aishwarya Rai being the true blue cross over star but that too hasn’t exactly happened till now.

“I only have one thing to say about this. When Shilpa went for ‘Big Brother’, nobody expected her to win. But she managed to prove everyone wrong. If that,which seemed impossible has happened, why can’t this rule be broken as well?

As of now, Shilpa has many offers from the UK as well as the US. She hasn’t consented to any except for the role of Sita in Uru Patels’s ‘Hanuman’ which has two Hollywood stars playing the roles of Ram and Hanuman,” says Bhagwagar.

So if luck continues to favour the dusky beauty so, a day might come when there is actually an Indian Bond girl creating history of the unique kind.

I'll sue Raj Kundra's wife

Shilpa Shetty has been repeatedly named by UK based NRI Raj Kundra's wife as the third party responsible for the breakdown of the couples nuptials. And now it seems Ms Shetty is tired of taking allegeations of her being a "home wrecker" lying down.

Hence she has released a statement quashing rumours that she is responsible for their marital collapse;

“After having been the subject of unwarranted media speculation in the past 48 hours, I feel the need to express my absolute shock at the way there is negative publicity…from someone called Kavita Kundra."

“I do know Raj Kundra as he was introduced to me three months ago regarding the perfume as he is a business associate.”

“I met with Raj in the capacity of the perfume deal and we have had discussions and meetings regarding finalising the perfume S2 which released in stores earlier this month.”

“My understanding is that Raj and Kavita's marriage was over a year ago and they have filed for divorce and have been living separately for over a year."

"I met Raj Kundra 3 months ago in a business capacity, so where the question of me breaking up her marriage arises this is impossible.”

Empathising with Kavita, Shilpa said she feels for her if she is going through some frustrations in life, but refused to stand for her using her name to vent "her frustrations." She has also threatened Kavita with legal action if she continues to taint her name;

“My culture and upbringing does not permit me to break marriages and I am the least interested in knowing or hearing anymore about her.”

“If she continues to TARNISH my name out of any insecurity or otherwise, I will consider taking legal action as I see no reason why my name is being dragged into this mess."

Apne - A Movie Review

Baldev Choudhary (Dharmendra) is an ex-boxer who has never achieved his dream of becoming a champion during his boxing career. This was mainly due to lack of financial support. So now he wants to fulfil his ambitions through his son, Angad's (Sunny Deol) success.

Though Angad pulled through fine, Baldev never forgot who ruined his chance of becoming a winner. Soon, an opportunity arrives for Baldev in the form of a television show.

He is supposed to train a local lad to get into this media hyped boxing show. But he is ditched for a better coach at the last minute.

Baldev's younger son Karan (Bobby Deol) has just launched his first music album. Seeing his father in trouble, he gives up his musical career and decide to take up boxing.

Karan works very hard and wins all the competitions to international levels.

But during his boxing match with the current world heavyweight champion, Karangets hurt.

He ends up paralyzed in a hospital bed. Baldev, who once wanted to achieve his life long ambition, is now about to loose his son.

He feels like killing himself. Angad steps in to turn the game upside down and bring his father the happiness of a lifetime in this touching drama.

Apne sees the all three Deols on the screen for the very first time.

Doctor Shilpa Shetty

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Leeds Metropolitan University on July 18 for her outstanding contribution to cultural diversity.

Shilpa, who won the Celebrity Big Brother reality television show, collected the award amidst 4,000 students present at the ceremony, thus becoming the youngest actor from the Indian film fraternity to join the ranks of Amitabh Bachchan, Shabana Azmi and Yash Chopra who have so far been conferred with the honour.

Thanking the University for selecting her for the Doctorate, she said, “You have bestowed this great honour on me and I promise to act responsibly. I have tried my best to do my best in whatever I have done in my life and I am going to continue to do so.”

Shilpa Shetty to become 'Dr Shilpa Shetty'

The Leeds Metropolitan University in UK will confer on actress Shilpa Shetty an honorary doctorate at a student graduation ceremony on Wednesday, July 18, informed her spokesperson Dale Bhagwagar.

Earlier, in honour of the International Film Academy's visit to Yorkshire last month, Leeds Metropolitan University conferred honorary degrees on Amitabh Bachchan , Shabana Azmi, Yash Chopra and Praful Patel.

"The honorary doctorate is in recognition of Shilpa's outstanding contribution to cultural diversity and good relations between the peoples of the United Kingdom and India. It's a proud moment for all of us," added Dale Bhagwagar.

Deols didn't insult me: Shilpa Shetty

A story yesterday in a tabloid suggesting that Shilpa Shetty is upset with the Deols for not allowing her to watch their film Apne on the same screen as the Deols, has Shilpa astounded.

"On the contrary I'm more miffed with this fabrication than anything the Deols did or didn't do," she screams from Paris where she has just landed.

"I love the Deols, specially Dharamji, to death. Why would they treat me badly? And why would I take offence about the seating arrangement? The truth is, Shamita and I had to attend a family function in the night.

We thought we'd attend the Apne premiere and then go to the function. But the screening started very late, so we just showed our faces and had to leave. That's it. The next day, on Friday, I had a special screening of Apne for my family and friends."

Shilpa isn't amused by the suggestion of a problem with the Deols. "Throughout the making of Apne we had so much fun. I knew I didn't have an author-backed role.

But just the pleasure of being in the same screen space as Dharamji, Sunny and Bobby made me very excited. If Anil Sharma makes Apne 2 I want to be part of it."

Shilpa to attend Lagerfeld's party in Tahiliani outfit

Shilpa Shetty is all set to attend legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld's party in Paris, and she has chosen to wear an outfit deigned by Tarun Tahiliani for the glitzy affair.

'Karl Lagerfeld has so many really stunning clients from the world over. He's one of the best designers in the world. The guest list at his parties is always an eye-popper. I'm hoping to run into some interesting people,' Shilpa told IANS before leaving for Paris.

She said the invitation came through Atul Kasbekar, who's looking after her advertising work. Incidentally, both Manish Malhotra and Tarun Tahiliani had made special dresses for Shilpa for the occasion.

'Manish, who is also going to be at the party, had made something for me. And so had Tarun Tahiliani. I'm opting for Tarun,' Shilpa said.

And even though her cervical spondylitis has been acting up again, she has no plans to miss the grand party.

'Catch me missing his (Lagerfeld) party for a bad back,' Shilpa exclaimed.

'In any case, I've to be in London's Oxford Street for my perfume in the mainstream market. So Paris is like a stopover. Who doesn't like to shop in Paris?

'Paris is welcome any time. It's one city that I'd visit even without a reason,' she added.

Shilpa to dance her way into the hearts of Brits

Actress Shilpa Shetty is finalising the nitty-gritty's of her Broadway musical which will be along the lines of Moulin Rouge and Andrew Lloyd Weber's Bombay Dreams.

"Her role requires lots of dancing and acting, which is something she loves doing anyway," remarked her spokesperson Dale Bhagwagar in an interview to BBC News.

"From the last couple of months, Shilpa's basic aim is to showcase Bollywood and Indian culture in the West," he added. "Even for the musical, her costumes will be designed by popular Indian designer Neeta Lulla and will represent the ethics and culture of India."

Bhagwagar further informed in the interview that renowned Indian choreographer Ganesh Hegde would set the steps for the musical, while Shilpa would focus on her performance, leaving the singing to professionals. Starting with shows in the UK for the first three months, the musical could travel to other parts of the world including the US and Australia.

"After Big Brother, Shilpa was constantly under media glare with all her moves being marked. She was looking at expanding her horizons by going to another level. This musical gives her a chance to do something she's always wanted to," added Bhagwagar.
